Canada Carbon Rebate for Small Businesses: Updated Payment Information and Online Calculator
October 9, 2024
Ottawa, Ontario
Canada Revenue Agency
The Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) is pleased to present updated details about the Canada Carbon Rebate for Small Businesses. This refundable tax credit aims to support small and medium-sized enterprises across the country by returning a portion of the federal fuel charge proceeds to eligible Canadian-controlled private corporations (CCPCs).
Payment Details and Calculator
The CRA has released the latest payment rates for the Canada Carbon Rebate for Small Businesses on its official website. These rates help businesses calculate the financial benefits they can anticipate from this program.

Moreover, we have introduced an innovative online calculator that enables businesses to estimate their rebate amount based on their specific circumstances. This tool is designed to provide greater transparency and ease of financial planning for CCPCs.
Payment Distribution
Rebates will be issued to eligible CCPCs that filed their 2023 tax returns by July 15, 2024, before the year-end. Most businesses can expect to receive their payments by:
December 16, 2024 (if registered for direct deposit)
December 31, 2024 (if receiving a payment by cheque)

Preparing for Your Rebate
To ensure the timely and efficient receipt of rebates, the CRA recommends that businesses take the following steps:
Enroll in direct deposit: Ensure your business is signed up for direct deposit to receive payments securely and without delay.
Update business information: Verify that your business address and contact details are accurate in the CRA’s records. This can be done through the CRA’s My Business Account portal or via most financial institutions.

Delays with Capital Gains Tax Legislation: A Precarious Position for Taxpayers
Political and Legislative Delays
Political turmoil is delaying new capital gains tax legislation, causing challenges for taxpayers and advisors.
Who's Affected?
Private corporation owners
Graduated rate estates (GRE) with year-ends on or after June 25
Filing Challenges- Accountants can’t file tax returns due to unavailable software, awaiting CRA-certified forms expected by January 2025.
Risks of Delay: Late tax payments and filings may incur financial penalties.
Expert Opinion: Debbi-Jo Matias, a CPA, warns the January rollout is too late, delaying forms until February.
Corporations have six months after year-end to file, but two or three months to pay. GREs must pay and file within three months of their year-end.
Conclusion: Political and legislative delays make tax planning and filing a challenge for many.
